>printing alternative surfaces
The content of this workshop will enlighten you on absolutely everything you need to know about digital printing on alternative surfaces. We will not print on regular photograph paper. Each student will have a kit of surfaces that have been prepared for printing on a small 4” x 6” format printer. These surfaces will include lutradur, organdy, pimatex cotton, metal and hand made cheese cloth skin.
Printing Alternative Surfaces is a process class, which includes a handout containing complete instructions on types of pre-coats, how to pre-coat alternative surfaces, use of carrier sheets, printer profiles and how to obtain a quality digital print.
This is an informative class about the digital printing process using fabrics and other uncommon surfaces. Once you learn the process it will be easy for you to take your pictures and digital images to another level in your work.

>journal quilts
Express yourself with journal quilts. These pieces are fun, spontaneous and funky. For these quilts we will use fabric that has been dyed, painted or colored ahead of time. A light weight canvas works great for this process. We will draw, write and create directly on the surface with pens, paints, markers, crayons, whatever you would like to use to make your mark.
These quilts are loose and fun and can even be made from heavy weight paper. We will begin by blocking out the design on one or several pieces of fabric or paper to balance your composition. From there, we will work spontaneously to fill the space. Bring quotes to use, write a story, make a treasure map, draw or appliqué pictures and images, just have fun with it all.
There will be many examples of finished pieces with both machine and handwork. You can create a large piece, or decide you want to do smaller pieces and then attach them together. Make several small pieces and create a book. Construction ideas for combining fabrics and pieces will be discussed and samples shown.

>dimensional collage
Want to add excitement to your projects.? Go 3D in a good way. This works for everything, collage, mixed media, journals, art books and whatever else you may be creating. We will create small compositions to experiment with exercises to push your creative techniques, then we will add them to larger compositions.
This workshop is largely a process class, but you will end up with interesting elements to use in future work and have the opportunity to create an end result with exercises developed.
Designed to produce extremely interesting 3D elements, we will manipulate fabric, paper and other items. During the workshop we will experiment with some, if not all of the following materials: found objects, metals, twigs, hemp, canvas, paint, thread, recycled items, metal mesh and wire.
We will look at uncommon ways to use surfaces and items in a 3D and layered way, with exercises that stretch beyond where we have been before.. Each participant will bring their special style to the elements created. Students are encouraged to develop their own interpretation with the ideas presented.

>extreme textural surfaces
This workshop is designed to produce extremely interesting textural surfaces by manipulating fabric, paper and other substrates. During the workshop we will experiment with some, if not all of the following items: found objects, metals, twigs, hemp, canvas, paint, thread, recycled items, metal mesh and wire.
Techniques in layering, embroidery, heat distressing, collage, digital printing and alternative bookmaking will be taught. We will look at uncommon ways to use surfaces, with exercises that stretch beyond where we have been before. Each participant will bring their special style to the surfaces created.
The materials presented in this workshop will encourage participants to come up with their interpretation of the ideas. Some sewing techniques will be used and sewing machines are helpful. For some of the textures we will create machine and hand work.

>Mixed Media Journals
Create digital mixed media fiber journals in this innovative workshop with Kathyanne White. Discover digital printing on surfaces such as lutradur, tyvec, pimatex cotton, organdy, painted muslin and watercolor paper. Expand your thinking on how to use photos and images in your mixed media art.
Create writable pages, a funky cover and combine images with textures and found objects.
